Case Study: Developing Leaders and a Framework to Deliver Change

A national retailer wanted to take 200 of their senior leaders through a development module ahead of their annual review process.

The objective was to develop these leaders by providing them with a framework for delivering change, feedback and improved performance successfully across the organisation.

Bitesize Intervention to Improve Delivery of Change

The aim was to help the retailer’s teams manage performance conversations, give and receive feedback, as well as setting clear objectives. However, they needed to do this in a manner that didn’t depend on their level of experience. Whether they had little or no experience delivering change, the priority was to ensure every senior manager got what they needed from the session.

The Challenges: Quick Turnaround and Perceived Value

One key challenge from the business was the need for a quick intervention that could be deployed to all senior leaders in a bite-sized way. The expected turnaround was three weeks from brief to delivery, which is a very short timescale for this type of project.

Another challenge was the fact that the module needed to improve the senior managers’ delivery of a piece of change organisationally. The range of experience and perceived value from the recipients, however, was highly variable. Also, this was a fast-paced business with a lot of change and transformation already underway.

The Solution: Interactive Session and Collateral

I delivered a framework for the client to sign off, followed by a range of leadership development materials. This included a two-hour interactive session, speaker notes, mixed media and collateral. I delivered this module to those tasked with delivering the sessions internally.

The Results: Punchy Intervention and Better Conversations

My short, punchy intervention was well received and delivered against the brief and within the tight time frame. The results for the client included improved conversations between leaders and their teams, and they were better equipped to deliver the organisational change.

“The sessions went down really well and were well received – something for everybody and the team liked how we focused on ‘why’ this was so important.”
